5 First steps
Learn PB first
Overlay wins

This page is a first-session route for Practical Basketball while the game is still in stress testing. Systems are playable, but binds and thresholds can move—trust the live overlay and My Player builder over any screenshot.

You do not need a finished attribute card to start. Clear Learn PB, green a few open looks, then pick a simple job before you chase example builds.

Before you queue

Join the main Practical Basketball place whose title shows the current stress test tag. If a listing looks like a holding lobby, leave and use the live place—how to confirm the window is on events.

Open the in-game controls overlay once after join. If muscle memory fights the HUD, the test moved—relearn before you blame the build.

First 30 minutes

  1. Find Learn PB. From the main menu, open Learn PB before heavy Park or Rec. It is the fastest way to meet shooting, passing, dribbles, finishing, defense, and post without wasting a squad.
  2. Run shooting three ways. Finish spot-up, off-dribble, and moving releases. One Gym timing does not cover every catch—read Perfect Release / Early / Late feedback on each type.
  3. Passing, handle, finish. Clear the remaining modules in a sensible order: Passing → Dribbling → Finishing → Defense → Post. Keep chains short; under the rim, dunk inputs are not the shoot key.
  4. Open My Player. Check height, weight, body type, attributes, badges, takeover, and animations. These are not cosmetics—they change hand feel and unlocks.
  5. Short Gym script. Public or Private Gym: a few open threes, numbered passes, one hand’s dribbles, one standing dunk and one driving dunk. Then try a low-pressure Park run with one or two go-to actions.

My Player — minimum you need

Name the job before you spend points: space and shoot, finish downhill, pass first, or crash glass. Spreading every bar to the middle makes a polite average player who loses to specialists.

Height, wingspan, weight, and body type change ceilings and hand feel—they are not Plaza skins. Set them before you dump attributes.

Badges unlock off attribute thresholds and climb Bronze → Silver → Gold → Diamond → Amethyst (confirm live labels). You will not max every badge on one loadout. Tier the ones that fire on your job every possession—finishing, shooting, playmaking, or defense and rebounding. Exact thresholds live in the builder; role maps live on best builds.

Takeover amps the verb you already practice. Pick after you can describe an average possession, then read the fits on takeovers. Animations change release speed—fast, readable jumpers beat slow flex packages while you learn Perfect Release.

Court rules that beat badge chasing

Green open spot-ups before contested heroes. Keep dribble chains short. Do not pack five bodies in the paint. Pass when help arrives.

Near the rim, the shoot key (often E on PC) starts a layup path. Standing and driving dunks use dunk inputs—details and tables are on controls.

Modes cheat-sheet

Plaza is social and cosmetics. Gym is practice and custom sets. Park is loud pickup. Rec and Blacktop are more structured team games—check live rule toggles.

Match the mode to the night: learn in Learn PB and Gym, express in Park, stress team habits in Rec/Blacktop. Do not debut a brand-new dribble package in a serious Rec lobby.

Progression without FOMO

Reputation climbs Starter → Amateur → Pro → All-Star → Superstar → Legend as a preview ladder. Treat ranks as milestones, not proof that every reward tooltip is final. Spend early currency on looks you want or a second experiment slot once you know your job—not panic Plaza buys.

For the current stress-test window and what may change overnight, use the Events page. Codes status stays on the codes page—do not paste random strings from chat.

Common beginner traps

Skipping Learn PB and jumping straight into sweaty Rec.

Average-spreading attributes because every bar looked important.

Copying a random 99 card that does not match your hands or queue.

Long dribble packages that gift steals.

Treating stress-test numbers as permanent law after one quiet night.

FAQ

What should I do in my first 30 minutes?

Confirm the live main place, finish Learn PB shooting modules, skim My Player, run a short Gym script, then one simple Park goal. Full key tables sit on the Controls page.

Do I need a perfect build before I play?

No. Lock a job, pick a matching takeover, fund the badges that touch that job, and validate in Gym. Deeper archetypes sit on Best Builds.

Why does my dunk turn into a layup?

Wrong finish key under the rim. Use the dunk tables on Controls—not the shoot key.

Is the game finished?

Not while the place title shows stress test branding. Calendar and change expectations are on Events.

When the first session feels honest, deepen the sheet on best builds and keep the overlay honest after every patch. The order stays boring: feel, job, amp, attributes.
