Before you memorize binds

Keybinds move during stress testing. Trust the live overlay over this page after any patch. Open Learn PB or the in-game controls panel before you blame the build.

PC separates shoot, dunk, lob, post, and hand-specific dribbles cleanly. Console packs some of those into bumper plus face-button chords. Mobile keeps the same systems on touch—tight Perfect Release windows are harder until the timing sticks.

Shooting and Perfect Release

Hold shoot to start the jumper, then release in the timing window near the animation peak. Early and late still fire; make rate drops hard once a hand is in your face.

Read the feedback. Perfect Release is the goal on open looks. Good is playable. Early / Late tell you which side you missed. Contested feedback means the shot was already a bad idea even if Gym timing felt fine—green open catch-and-shoots first.

Lock one spot-up until the release feels boring. Then off-dribble. Then moving shots. One Gym timing does not cover Park pull-ups.

Pump fake is a tap, not a held shot. Hold too long and you leave your feet. Use the fake to load a closeout, then drive, pass, or rise for real.

Long dribble chains and sprint spam shrink the window. Catch in a stance you can rise from. Shot selection is part of controls even when it is not on the keybind table.

Dunks and the layup trap

Standing dunks need rim proximity and little lateral move—usually Hold Space on PC, Hold Y / Triangle on console. Driving dunks need speed and angle (Shift + Space / RT·R2 + dunk). Too far, straight into a set chest, or already slowed in traffic becomes a layup or a block. Contact dunks are not a separate key; they trigger off driving dunk context.

Self lob: lob input (often F on PC; LB/L1 + RS/R3 on console), then finish in the catch window. Empty lane only.

Under the rim, shoot (often E) starts a layup path. That is fine when you want a layup. It is wrong when you needed dunk protection. See the dunk table below.

Dribbles are hand-dependent

The same key changes with the active hand. Learn a clean switch before long combos. On PC, H is a common quick switch; Z / C / X / V cover hesi, cross, stepback, and spin-style packages (double-taps show up for some variants). Shift layers sprint mixes.

On console, reopen the dribble overlay until the chords stick. Keep chains short: one direction change into a drive, pull-up, or pass. Long packages drain stamina and gift steals—reset through a pass if the handle feels late.

Passing

Numbered passes hit teammates by slot (1–4 on PC; bumper + icon on console). Those numbered presses are the overhead / direct pass path. Bounce = double-tap. Chest = Shift + number on PC (bumper + trigger + icon on many overlays). Flashy and swing variants sit in the reference table—confirm chords on your overlay.

Fake pass (often Q + number on PC) sells a throw without giving the ball away. Pass early. Standing in a loaded trap wastes the space you just made. Hit the cutter on the second step.

Layup gathers on the drive

While moving toward the rim, shoot-key taps and double-taps (often with sprint) change the gather—hop, spin, euro-style slides, and related finishes. These are not dunk chords. Angle, speed, and layup investment decide which animation plays; the same tap pattern will not always produce the same finish.

Practice them in Gym after standing and driving dunks feel clean. Overlay helpers list extra finish modifiers when the build supports them—believe that panel over muscle memory from last week. Hard-gather badges only help after the bind is honest.

Post, screens, and defense

Post up: Hold G (LT/L2 on console). Hooks, fades, and spins need direction plus post control. Low post badge tiers feel mushy. Post burns stamina—two backs downs, then hook, kick, or reset.

Screens are commonly Hold T on PC and Hold B / Circle on console. Teammate lob is T plus a number—different chord, same letter. If Hold T alone starts a lob instead of a screen, re-open the overlay; stress-test builds have shuffled this.

Defense starts with stance and camera, not steal spam. Steal when the ball is exposed. Stay between ball and rim on drives. Contest vertical; do not jump sideways into every pump. Rebound: box first, chase second.

Overlay wins if this table disagrees with your client.

Practice checklist

  1. Open spot-ups. Two minutes on one spot. Watch Perfect Release / Early / Late only.
  2. Pass variants. 1–4 targets with bounce, chest, and one fake pass. Skip hero lob spam.
  3. One-hand dribble set. Short Z/C/X/V chain (or console equivalents), switch hands, repeat.
  4. Dunk pair. One driving dunk, one standing dunk. If shoot-key layup appears, reset.
  5. Drive gather. One euro or hop gather into a finish. Confirm it is not a dunk chord.
  6. Post hook. One mismatch post gather into hook or kick-out. Watch stamina.

FAQ

Why does my dunk keep turning into a layup?

Shoot key under the rim, too far for a drive, or no speed. Use standing / driving dunk inputs from the table, not E. Re-check the overlay after patches.

Where do console players see binds?

In-game control overlay and dribble / finishing helpers. This page summarizes usual chords; the live overlay wins when Stress Test updates land.

What do I do when keybinds update mid-test?

Stop Park for a minute. Run Learn PB or Gym with the overlay open. Re-run the checklist until Perfect Release and dunks feel honest again.

Is shoot on E or Space?

Overlays disagree across builds. Many players shoot with held E and dunk with Space. Believe today’s overlay, not last week’s memory.

Why do my dribbles feel random?

They are hand-dependent. Switch hands on purpose, then practice one short chain per hand.

How does this connect to builds and takeovers?

Controls are the verbs. Pick the amp on takeovers, then fund attributes on best builds. Do not rebuild the sheet to fix a wrong dunk key.

Keep the overlay honest and chains short. When dunks and greens feel stable, lock the job and spend the sheet—inputs first, attributes second.
