| DoomfistSelf-sustaining melee from Update 2 | Update 2 melee / off-tank | Update 2+ | 4 |
Early formation
Usual open-game shape before Wave 25. Swap when your wipe shows the hole.
| Position | Unit | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Front line | Iron Skeleton | Soaks first contact so the backline isn’t deleted |
| Extra melee | Bone Grunt | Cheap second body while Population is low |
| Ranged | Skeleton Archer | Steady damage from safety |
| AOE | Imp Bomber | Clears clumps when single-target falls behind |
| Flex | Grave Warlock | Only after the four above aren’t starving for slots / Souls |
Checkpoint swaps
Replace the old core when the next checkpoint stops moving.
| Checkpoint | Focus | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Open → Wave 25 | Iron Skeleton + Archer + Imp Bomber | Force Wave 25 even if the boss cleans the last heroes |
| Wave 25+ | Shiny Lava Imp + Bone Guard | Drop tutorial imps; Population before stacking dual-slot |
| Wave 50–75 | Blood Gargoyle front, Lava Imp back | Boss weapon matters more once elites survive the first clash |
| ~Wave 100 | Shiny Barbarian or Hellfire Warlock; test Deathlock | Cut support that doesn't hold |
| Wave 125 push | Demon Butcher core; chase Skull King / Demon Lord / Doomfist when you pull them | Raid Secrets need ~30M personal damage — keep support only if it still moves the checkpoint |
Formation tips
- Tanks in front, damage in back. Glass on tile one is how you leak.
- Dual-slot and high-cost units eat Population — upgrade slots before stacking Bone Guard, Hellfire, or Secrets.
- Passives beat Power rating — burn / AOE / marks often outvalue a slightly higher Power filler.
- A mutated Bone Grunt can still beat a fresh Iron Skeleton for a while — mutations juice ATK/HP, not the role.
- After Wave 25, one thick tank + a mutated backline beats a pile of tutorial trash.
- If normal waves leak → Population / Unit Damage. If only bosses wipe you → weapon / Boss Attack.
- Dump Fusion Shards into units you actually field.
- Skip Tomb Hound after the opening. Update 1 brought Barbarian, Mighty Orc, and Skull King; Update 2 added Doomfist. Update 4 raid Secrets need ~30M personal damage. Endgame still leans Skull King + Demon Lord (or Doomfist).
Mutations
Mutations only change ATK/HP — kit stays the same. Full table on Mutations.
Quick path
- Early: Iron Skeleton up front, Skeleton Archer behind, Imp Bomber when packs clump.
- Wave 25 → Lava Imp + Bone Guard → Gargoyle → Barbarian → Demon Butcher. Dual-slot only after Population.
- Mid: Mighty Orc front, Hellfire Warlock or Lava Imp back. Endgame chase: Skull King tank, Demon Lord / Doomfist carries.
- Spend order → beginner guide.
FAQ
Minion vs unit?
Same thing. Players say minion; Unit Index and update notes say unit.
Where do units come from?
Mostly the Altar with Souls. Mutations can roll on summon. Open Unit Index for names and costs.
What's dual-slot?
Unit costs two Population. Stack those too early and you can't place anything else.
Is Doomfist real?
Yes — Update 2 added it. Read its kit and Population cost in Unit Index before dumping every shard.
Skull King or Mighty Orc for the front?
Skull King is the late Secret tank with strong self-heal once you own it. Mighty Orc is the safer mid–late Mythic frontline while you chase Secrets.
Is Hellfire Warlock worth building?
Yes for mid–late checkpoint pushes — global Hellfire Rain clears awkward packs. Swap the shard dump to Demon Lord once that Secret is online.
How do Update 4 raid Secrets drop?
Watch the raid timer (usually bottom-right). Raids run about every 30 minutes; a short join window opens before the fight starts. Deal roughly 30M damage with your own units — other players’ damage does not count — then check the reward for a Secret drop. Which Secret you can roll depends on the raid boss. Open Unit Index for the Secret names; keep Skull King / Demon Lord / Doomfist as the shard priority until those Secrets are online.
Should raid Secrets replace Skull King or Demon Lord?
Not by default. Raid Secrets are extra Secret pulls that save Altar shards — field them when they fill a hole, but dump Fusion Shards into Skull King, Demon Lord, or Doomfist first unless you need that raid kit on the board.
