How mutations work

Mutations are sell-price rolls on graded loot — Void, Gold, Dirty, and the rest. They add at the shop counter, not in the auction preview. Silver (2×) and Gold (4×) on the same piece pay 6× total (2 + 4), not 8×. A Cheeseburger at $0.10 base with Void (35×) pays about $3.50; the same Void on Gangster Dominus ($15,000) pays $525,000. Run the stack in the calculator before you bid.

How stacks add

Multiple mutations on one item add into one combined multiplier at sell time. Silver (2×) plus Gold (4×) is 6× total — not 8×. When picking a Gavel Trophy, compare how many multiplier points it adds to your stack — not just the shelf flash. Try stacks in the calculator and read the auction page for max-bid tips.

ExampleMathShelf payoutNote
Silver + Gold2× + 4× = 6×$1,000 base → $6,000 shelfNot 8× — multipliers add.
Scrap Dominus + Void35× on $565 base$19,775High-base accessory example.
Scrap Dominus + Void + Gold35× + 4× = 39×$22,035Still additive — not 35 × 4.
Gangster Dominus + Secret50× on $15,000 base$750,000Why base price beats proc color.
Dirty + Pure0.8× + 1.5× = 2.3×Penalty offset by second procCheck the full stack before listing.

Guess an unknown roll

Know the sell price but not the mutation? Enter sell price (p), the item's 100% max from Collection or the items page (m), and condition (c). Works best with only one mutation on the piece.

Exact shelf price with one unknown mutation

100% value from Collection or wiki

Current condition percentage

Works best on items with a single mutation. The pre-filled Dirty Pressure Cooker example (p 120.78, m 160, c 92) should read about 0.8× — matching Dirty.

Sell price math

The game applies the mutation multiplier before the condition curve. Values over $1,000 hit a 60% cap, so the reverse tool checks both uncapped and capped paths and picks the better fit.

Base sell (before mutation) uses this curve — V as final sell value, C as condition (0–100), and Vmax as the base value from Collection:

V = Vmax × (0.85 + 0.00035×Vmax − |0.35 − 0.00035×Vmax|²)
  + [Vmax − Vmax × (curve term)] × (C ÷ 100)

To reverse a single mutation multiplier M from shelf price P:

Uncapped (U):
  U = −(0.25 + 0.75×C/100)
    + √[(0.25 + 0.75×C/100)² + 0.0014×(1−C/100)×P / (0.0007×(1−C/100)×Vmax)]

Capped (Cₘ):
  Cₘ = P / (Vmax × (0.60 + 0.40 × C/100))

Unified:
  M = (U + Cₘ + |U − Cₘ|) ÷ 2

The calculator above uses this — usually close enough to narrow down the roll.

Chase targets

Secret (50×) is the highest confirmed multiplier — treat top procs as windfalls, not planned drops. Void (35×), Hologram (15×), Chrome and Timeless (12× each), and Gem (10×) are the next-best single rolls. Diamond, Corrupted, Shocked, and Wet (6×–8×) work well as stacking partners on high-base machinery and accessories. Top multipliers on floor loot still pay pocket change — bid where base prices are high, especially Shipyard industrial pieces and Exclusive wearables.

How mutations roll

Mutations land on items from won lockers. The roll system is area-agnostic — the same roster can proc in Junk Yard through Shipyard. What changes by yard is base price: a Hologram (15×) on Shipyard machinery pays far more than the same proc on starter clutter. Practical chasing is volume plus targeting — bid where bases are high, especially accessory exclusives and industrial loot from the areas page.

Common mistakes

Assuming multipliers multiply instead of add. Selling Dirty items without checking for a second proc. Chasing Void on Junk Yard floor loot instead of high-base targets. Using the reverse calculator on items with multiple mutations. Skipping the calculator during a live bid war when additive math is not automatic.

FAQ

How many mutations are in the game?

The roster covers every known sell modifier from Dirty (0.8×) through Secret (50×). Rainbow stays unknown; Black is unobtainable and excluded from calculators.

Do mutation multipliers add or multiply when stacked?

They add. Silver (2×) plus Gold (4×) pays at 6× combined, not 8×. Void (35×) plus Diamond (8×) totals 43× — not 280×.

Which mutation has the highest multiplier?

Secret at 50×. Void follows at 35×; Hologram is next at 15×; Chrome and Timeless tie at 12×.

What does Dirty do?

Dirty is the only negative modifier at 0.8× — it sells below base. Never quick-sell a Dirty item without checking for a second proc; one positive mutation on the same piece cancels the penalty under additive stacking.

How do I identify an unknown mutation?

Use the mutation multiplier calculator on this page. Enter your exact sell price (p), the item's 100% base max from Collection (m), and current condition (c). It works best when the item has only one mutation — the Dirty Pressure Cooker example pre-fills to about 0.8×.

What is Relative Added Value Boost?

When choosing a Gavel Trophy, compare how many multiplier points it adds to your stack — not just the shelf number. +4× Gold on a $565 base beats +2× Silver in dollars, but it depends on what is already stacked.

Where should I chase high multipliers?

On the highest-base loot you can afford — Shipyard machinery and exclusive accessories, not Junk Yard clutter. Void on a $0.10 item is pocket change; Void on Scrap Dominus ($565) pays about $19,775.

When do mutations apply?

At sell time when a customer buys the listed item. Auction previews show base values only. Grading changes base before the multiplier applies; Lucky Grading gamepass and mutations stack independently.

Is there a calculator for mutation stacks?

Yes — the sell-value calculator loads priced item bases and known multipliers so you can preview shelf payout before you chase rolls at auction. This page also includes a reverse calculator to guess an unknown single mutation from sell price.
